Happy 70th Birthday Mom!

Here is you at your high school graduation! You are celebrating a new type of milestone today! 70 years --- (they say it's the new 50)!
You raised two imps! Somehow - you wouldn't know we were such angels from this picture!

You taught me about creating art, and putting it on the street for everyone to see (and buy!). It must have made an impression on me.

And then another of my favorite pictures. Happy Birthday Mom!

Busy Days & Nights at the Studio

This is the front of my DIFFA jacket this year. The event will be held in February 2008. This year's theme is The Cinema of Life. I created this jacket based on my favorite movie the Wizard of Oz. The front is all done with sepia tones, digital photos from the movie and the words: fortune, twister, HOME, far far away.

I created some smaller works in the studio getting ready for the next weekend's Winter Sale at Winter Street. These pieces will all sell for under $100. This piece is called "The Dance" and is 9"x12".
This piece is 12"x12", and it called Urbanscape"
This piece is 8"x10" and is "Untitled".

This is a three pieces that can be sold seperately or together. Each one is 4"x5". The reminder me of the book "The Little Prince" and the planet with rocks.

Today I spent time getting back to creating. I created in the studio, I created at home on the computer, I created my idea for the Diffa jacket, and I created my spirit.
It was a good day to myself. I am looking forward to some reading, some movies, and some turkey.

ViaColori and the rain

ViaColori, the street painting festival, started out dry.

Beginning sketches started the morning off.
Colors were bright, the skies were cloudy.

Direct Energy was the sponsor for my 10'x10' square. It benefitted the Center for Hearing & Speech.

Filling in took time between taking plastic on and off. This is what I was able to accomplish on Saturday.
It is a Bronco Rider.
This is my sketch.

The piece is protected as I could make it with a plastic tarp, cardboard, and duck tape. Tonight it is raining hard. I wonder what it will this might look like tomorrow, and even if we will get to finish the pieces. Either way it is alot of fun to meet the other artists and see the streets come to life as a living art gallery.
And yes, my parents finally got there luggage. Uncle Skip & Ina came to visit and even negiotiated the heavy Houston traffic a few times.

Mom & Dad arrived, their luggage did not.

Mom & Dad visit. It will be Mom's 3rd time to visit and Dad's 1st time. I am excited to show them the new house and studio where I do my art. My Uncle Skip and his wife Ina will be in Galveston as well as we plan on meeting up with them as well over the next few days. I will be creating a chalk painting at Via Colori in the Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston on Saturday & Sunday. Lots of things to see and do.

My car had some problems, I fixed the most pressing ones, and now we have to figure out what to do next. I hate the thought of a car payment.

Where does the time go?

Art On The Avenue

These are some of the pictures from Art on the Avenue event that occured this weekend. You can see my digital art painting called "Chandelier Two" and

In the corner a couple is viewing the pieces entitled "Spirituality" and "Passion".

This is the lucky couple that bought Chandelier with a winning bid right at the last minute.
This couple is taking Passion to their new home.
And these are some great sneakers that jewelry artist, Lindsey Hardin, wore at the night's event.

Busy Days in the Studio

The first two pieces are from the work I have done for this year's Bering & James Box Show. This piece is titled "Royal Inspiration"

One is 12"x36" and the other is 6"x36". This is called "Earthly Detail"

This is another piece that I finished this weekend. I have been trying to think of the right title - so I welcome suggestions. Currently I am contemplating "Dragonfly Night".

This is a commission that I finished this weekend as well. It is called "Three Trees" and it is a companion piece to go with "Four Trees", which was sold this summer at Flavor from Afar in Dallas.

Self Portrait Abstract

These are 5 steps from start to finish on the piece that I created from my written name.

I use Corel Painter X and Adobe Photoshop. First I cut, paste the shapes of the letters written.

Then I use those shape and start overlaying them, distorting them, playing with shapes, and filtering the shapes.

I save each step along the way so I can go back into the layers if I need to pull back or use those steps in other pieces of art.

Then I can use those layers, colors and shapes to create different feelings.

And then I can draw and paint on top of the image to create a piece that crosses the line between being graphic and the painterly image.

Keep Moving Forward

Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we're curious... and curiousity keeps leading us down new paths.

- Walt Disney

I find this an inspiration quote. It relates to my personal life, my friends, my corporate life, and my art.
